Metaverse shopping mall platform for users of various types embedded
Project META aimed to create a metaverse platform for the client UPPURPLE, a company that provides a solution for problems embedded in online shopping malls through a multi-complex metaverse fashion shopping platform. The project's main objective was to create a shopping mall application with a metaverse shopping mall platform and avatars customized for users of various types.
UPPURPLE is a multi-complex metaverse fashion shopping platform that aims to demolish the boundary between offline and online shopping for consumers and retail shops. Initially a South Korean startup funded by the government under the U Tech category, UPPURPLE made a strategic decision in November to prioritize the U.S. market due to the higher adaptability of the metaverse concept there. The company was acquired by Divelabs, a tech firm based in New York known for its involvement in new technologies like NFTs and Web3. The project continues under the name UPPURPLE within Divelabs, maintaining its identity despite being absorbed by its parent company.

Data Science Team
The Data Science team played a crucial role in the project by programming a chatbot to help navigate users through the online shopping mall, developing a recommendation system that provides recommendations to customers based on their preferences, and developing various interactive dashboards where customers and shop owners can observe various datasets including user activity and purchase history. Our objectives are:
- To develop a recommendation system where customers can get recommendations of clothing based on the image they upload.
- To develop interactive dashboards that visualize customer information and behaviors based on the information gathered from chatbot responses, shopping mall activity, and product purchase history for managers to devise customer-targeted ads/events.
Metaverse Dev. Team
The Metaverse development team played a crucial role in the project by developing the Metaverse shopping mall platform and user avatars for the Metaverse. The team’s objective was to develop a user-friendly Metaverse shopping mall platform where online shop owners can design their own shops for users to visit and create user avatars so that users can try on clothes of different styles and sizes. Our objectives are:
- To develop a metaverse shopping mall platform for online shopping mall owners.
- To make saving and loading possible within the Metaverse shopping mall platforms so that the settings by different shop owners can be saved and loaded freely.
Software Engineering Team
The software development team played a crucial role in the project by developing the mobile shopping mall platform, the META App. The team’s objective was to develop a user-friendly shopping mall application where online shopping mall owners can register their shops and upload clothing for sale, shoppers can purchase clothing from various online shops conveniently, and integrate the metaverse environment into the mobile application. Our objectives are:
- Front-end Development: Designing an engaging interface including the login & register page, homepage, product and detailed page, and admin page for the META mobile application.
- Back-end Development: Develop a centralized database for registering users and adding information such as company and product information to the META mobile application.
Business Strategy & Data Integration Team
The Business Strategy & Data Integration team developed an online survey form for the users of the META mobile application to collect user information and clothing preferences for future recommendations. In addition, the team created business reports that analyze the market for the metaverse, as the META application aims at the metaverse market. Our objects are:
- To produce comprehensive business reports analyzing the metaverse market trends and opportunities and utilize the data for strategic decision-making.
- Enhancing user engagement by improving the survey form for detailed user information and boosting user participation in the META app.
Media Arts Team
The main objective of the Media Arts team for Project META was to create assets for the 3D storefront of the shopping malls within the metaverse environment in the META application. The team assisted in producing the blockout and the prototype of the design and conducted level-design concept art. The 3D storefront would enhance users’ experience while using the metaverse application. Our objects are:
- To become skilled in using various 3D computer graphics programs such as Autodesk Maya.
- To use 3D modeling skills in creating various 3D assets used for the Metaverse storefront, including the windows, doorframe, and corner pieces.
